Packed with Love, From Clarksville to Honduras

Once again, this year our church is partnering with World Compassion Network to send food boxes over to Honduras for the Family2Family Food Box Program. Rob and I have filled a few boxes in the years past, so we planned to do the same this year. I thought it would be fun and hopefully have an impact to have Mekyla and Xzayvier help buy everything and pack the boxes up...so that's what we did today. We went to pick up all the supplies needed to put together the food boxes. We bought vegetable oil, elbow macaroni, pinto beans, rice, salt, canned sardines, soap and a kitchen towel, enough to fill five 18-quart plastic storage boxes. Not even really thinking it through, I subconsciously decided that we would use our already-budgeted grocery money to purchase these supplies and just make due with what we had left. It didn't even cross my mind that it would cost me $120.14! Regardless, I have decided that we will make it work. I think it will, if nothing else, be a symbolic reminder of having to make due with what we have, like so many others have to do, AND remind us how blessed we really are. The kids and I had a lot of fun shopping and I think they were quite surprised to see how much work (and money) it took to complete the task. They were really excited to help with this project and I think it showed them that they can do their part in the mission. They did a great job and I'm super proud of them!

My super shoppers!
Of course Kreid had to get in on the action too.
All done! One of the neighbors came over to help too. What a fun project...and hopefully a good lesson too.
